Sumer: The Cradle of Civilization

The Sumerians are regarded as one of the first known civilizations in history, emerging in Mesopotamia around the 4th millennium BC (the 4000s BC). They pioneered human history in numerous fields, including agriculture, urbanization, and the development of writing. Cuneiform, one of the greatest inventions of the Sumerians, is one of the earliest known writing systems and enabled the formal recording of human history. Furthermore, by establishing the first city-states, they made significant advancements in administration, law, and commerce. The Sumerians also made vital contributions to science, mathematics, and astronomy, developing systems for measuring time, creating calendars, and establishing fundamental calculation methods.
